Cartilage

Articular cartilage is the smooth bearing surface on the end of bones that allows joints such as the knee or shoulder to work efficiently. Unfortunately, secondary to trauma or wear and tear, when this cartilage begins to break down it is an irreversible process leading to joint swelling, pain, and functional limitation. When treatment options such as physical therapy, oral medications, and activity modification have failed, injection therapy can be helpful. Steroids, Hyaluronic Acid, PRP(Platelet rich plasma), and Stem Cells, are injectables that decrease inflammation and potentially stimulate cartilage regeneration.
